I am your constituent, and I am asking you to support the accompanying Petition to Secure Federal, State and Local Elections.

The purpose of this petition is straightforward: every eligible citizen should have a fair opportunity to vote, every lawful vote should be counted, every voter should be properly verified, and our election process should be secure, transparent, and capable of independent verification.

I am asking you to support lawful action that would:

• Restore an Election Day-centered voting system in which the overwhelming majority of voters vote in person on Election Day.

• Make Election Day a national holiday and provide working Americans reasonable opportunity to vote.

• Preserve absentee voting for citizens who legitimately cannot appear at the polls, BUT KEEP ABSENTEE VOTING AN EXCEPTION TO NORMAL IN-PERSON VOTING RATHER THAN A SUBSTITUTE FOR ELECTION DAY.

• Require voter identification and verification of voter eligibility while ensuring eligible citizens have reasonable access to the identification necessary to vote.

• Maintain accurate voter-registration records while protecting eligible voters from wrongful removal.

• Provide voters a secure way to verify that their ballot was received and accepted without compromising the secrecy of their vote.

• Require secure ballot handling, documented chain of custody, voter-verifiable paper records, secure voting equipment, reconciliation, and meaningful post-election audits.

• Provide meaningful observation and public transparency throughout the election process while protecting voters from intimidation and preserving the secret ballot.

Our elections should not depend upon blind trust. The election process should provide the records, safeguards, transparency, and audits necessary for the public to verify that lawful ballots were properly handled and accurately counted.

I am asking you to support these reforms and work with the appropriate federal, state, and local authorities to establish an election system that is simple, secure, transparent, and verifiable.
